Today marks the grand opening of the 2025 'Crossing Tongji Bridge' Folklore Event, a time-honored tradition that draws over a million participants each year. As one of the largest Lantern Festival folk celebrations in China, the event is set to continue until February 13, filling the city with vibrant colors, cultural performances, and a strong sense of community.

A Tradition Rooted in Blessings and Prosperity

Dating back over 400 years to the Ming Dynasty, 'Crossing Tongji Bridge' is a ritual deeply embedded in Foshan's history. The act of walking across the bridge symbolizes good fortune, a smooth year ahead, and family happiness. Many participants carry windmills (representing change and success) and lettuce (a homophone for "wealth" in Cantonese) as they cross, embracing the local belief: "Crossing Tongji Bridge, Trouble Goes Away".
