On the morning of Feb. 2, the main expressway of the Panhai Bridge officially came into service, making it possible for citizens in Nanhai District, Foshan to arrive in Panyu District, Guangzhou as soon as in five minutes. The opening of the bridge helps accelerate Guangzhou and Foshan’s integration into the one-hour commuter circle of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). This is another bridge that connects the two cities together and also a key joint that link up roads on Guangzhou-Foshan traffic map.

On January 1st, the opening ceremony of Panhai Bridge was held in Foshan

Panhai Bridge creates a quick link among the central business district (CBD) of Foshan, the urban center of Guangzhou and group areas around Xijiang (an area consisting of Hecheng, Gaoming District and Xiqiao town, Nanhai District). It is the must-go way from Foshan (Nanhai) to Guangzhou South Railway Station. At the same time, there are no signal lights on the entire bridge, and the driving journey from Downtown Chancheng to Guangzhou South Railway Station will be shortened from 40 minutes to 20 minutes.

The project started on December 29, 2018. It took 25 months to complete the main line and C ramp. The rest of the project are scheduled to be completed in June 2021. Besides that, the project is also expected to link to Nanda Avenue and all the way to Guangzhou and Dongguan. It also readily ties Kuiqi Road to multiple expressways such as Gunagzhou-Taishan expressway, Guangzhuxi expressway and Dongsha-Xinlian expressway – constituting a brand-new west-to-east mainline that brings Gunagzhou and Foshan together and boosting the all-regional integration process of Guangzhou and Foshan.

Panhai Bridge is a white cable-stayed bridge that spans both sides of the bank over the wide Chencun waterway. Reportedly, the bridge is 1.293km in length (800 meters in Nanhai District of Foshan and 493 meters in Panyu District of Guangzhou, designed with a speed of 80km per hour. Built on first-class standards for expressway, it consists of two-ways eight lanes. Standing on the bridge, one can notice that it is largely covered in white, including the main structure and cables, simple but majestic. There are also sidewalks on both sides where pedestrians can enjoy the beautiful scenery of both cities.
