Recently, a bidding plan was announced for Fochen Road and engineering design for its linkage. As shown, Foshan Sanlongwan High-end Innovation Cluster (hereinafter referred to as Sanlongwan) planned to upgrade its main avenue, Fochen Road, along with the cityscape of linkages, transport system and intelligent facilities. The overall upgrading plan aims to develop the road into an ecosystem that features environment stewardship, quality, safety, intelligence and efficiency. The project is expected to boost integrated growth in Southern part of Sanlongwan and build a second gateway for the area.
Fochen Road is set to be upgraded with a full-line intelligent platform
The “double-functional” Fuchen Road is designed to be first-class highway as well as an urban road, consisting of two-way 8 lanes. On its west section (Wendenglu Road-Fochen Bridge), the designed speed is 60km/h, and the rest allows a speed of 100km/h, in line with the existing design. The upgrading project starts from Fochen Bridge (Sanlongwan Avenue) in the west to Haihua Bridge in the east, with a total length of about 15.5km.

Linking to Panyu District, Guangzhou on its east, Haihua Bridge came into service in June 2020, which has become one key expressway that ties Foshan and Guangzhou together. Now, the time spent travelling from Chencun Shunde to Guangzhou South Railway Station was shortened from 30 minutes to only 5, which largely facilitates the flow of travelers and materials.

A better traffic system in Sanlongwan
Sanlongwan serves as a major platform and engine for Foshan to integrate into Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), as well as “a strategic move” for high-quality economic growth and integrated regional development. In 2020, several important roads in Sanlongwan were finished, extending Yuhe Road and Fochen Road from the east, and linking Haihua Bridge to Guangzhou South Railway Station. Besides, Huayangnan Road, Changjiang Road and Fenjiang Road South Extension were also completed – all of which strengthened the traffic capacity of the two cities.

Up next, Sanlongwan will give top priority to environment protection during the construction. Relevant preliminary work, like a speed control system in core area, will be soon conducted. More progress will be made on its way to a multi-dimensional traffic system and better economic growth.
