With 13.7 meters in length, the "mobile cabin lab" consists of 3 experimental areas
On May 29th, a medical team and "mobile cabin lab" were dispatched from Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital to support nucleic acid testing work in Foshan, as the team followed a pattern of "sampling on-site and testing on-site".
Reportedly, a "mobile cabin lab" is specifically designed to carry out on-site nucleic acid testing in areas affected by the pandemic, with a daily testing capacity of 3000-5000 people (30,000-50,000 for 10 to 1 mixed detecting). Once the sample is collected, the testing report will come out within 2 to 2.5 hours. By cutting off the shipping procedure, this new testing pattern saves up to 1 to 2 hours compared with a fixed laboratory.
"Mobile cabin lab" installed on the spot
As introduced, a "mobile cabin lab" has been built in with a reagent preparation room, a sample processing room, and an amplification PCR room, which functions as equally as a standard nucleic acid testing laboratory. Separated and independent of each other, the 3 experimental areas ensure a safe environment for testing personnel.
This time around, the "mobile cabin lab" was arranged next to the sampling site at Lingnan Pearl Stadium in Chancheng District. As medical workers will shift twice in a day, the lab runs 24/7 and plans to finish testing for 1.4 million in the next 5 days.
"To prevent and control the round of pandemic, we cant afford to waste one second. " stressed by Yao Herui, Deputy Dean of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital. As more "mobile cabin labs" are put into use, Foshan will see higher efficiency in its on-going large-scale nucleic acid testing, which is indeed a safeguard towards local pandemic prevention and control.
