On recent days, Foshan Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports has held a group conference in celebration of the successful application of Wing Chun (Foshan Wing Chun) as a national intangible cultural heritage project. Thoughts and perspectives on areas, such as protection, publicity and promotion, rule-making, and training, were shared from local Wing Chun inheritors and delegates in Wing Chun community on the conference.

After being rated as a national intangible heritage, where does Foshan Wing Chun go in the future? Statistically, Foshan is home to 220 Wing Chun marital art centers, yet half of them have not registered as a member of Foshan Wing Chun Association (hereinafter referred to as "the Association". As suggested, all of them should join the Association that provides standards and regulations. As an executive unit, the Association should also be responsible for promoting, protecting and paving more ways for Wing Chun.

To allow Foshan Wing Chun to thrive, inheritance comes first. As told by Liang Zhansheng, a certified Wing Chun inheritor in Foshan, Foshan is taking up a historical mission to cultivate a group of young Wing Chun players with powerful marital art skills, uplifting images and eloquence in public speaking. Plus, special training programs should be launched for young teenagers, for the sake of wider influence among younger generations.

In the face of massive shifts in Chinas technology and education, Foshan University of Science and Technology has acted to include Wing Chun as a compulsory course and carried out oral history research on Wing Chun. All that has been counted as important progress in Foshans building into "Kung Fu City of the World". To this date, China has witnessed fundamental social changes, widened opening up to the world, rapid growth of Internet technology and new media. Liu Yongfeng, Dean of the School of Humanity and Education at Foshan University of Science and Technology, felt a compelling need to innovate the ways Wing Chun are protected. He suggested a revised version of "Five-Year Protection Plan for Foshan Wing Chun as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage", as well as a standardized inheritance system that follows.

"Foshan Wing Chun registration as a national intangible cultural heritage should not be seen as a closure, but a brand-new start. This is an exciting opportunity for Foshan to promote Wing Chun and empower it to become a leading force of Foshan marital art boxings." said by Chen Xinwen, Director of Foshan Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports.

"First, we must identify the Association as the main entity for Wing Chuns preservation and development, and make clear all the duties and rights." Chen Xinwen revealed that Foshan will intensify efforts to build Foshan Wing Chun Museum and organize brand competitions on a bigger platform in ways that shape a healthy industry.
